A portfolio shows admissions readers what grades can’t.
Many comprehensive universities require a portfolio for architecture, design and fine-arts programs, and some accept a creative portfolio from applicants in other majors. A body of sustained, original work shows commitment, independent thinking and skill.
- 01Free consultation & school list — We look at the student’s goals and current work, and map each target school’s portfolio requirements.
- 02A plan by grade — From foundations in Grades 8–10 to finished work in Grades 11–12, with hours and a timeline.
- 03Mentored, one-on-one — Working artists and designers help build a portfolio with original ideas and sustained, in-depth work.
- 04Select, present & submit — Pieces chosen, laid out and submitted in each school’s format — and practice talking about the work.
Common questions
Which universities have NPC students been admitted to?
Our published results include Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, the University of Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon, Rice, UC Berkeley, UCLA, NYU, USC, UCL, the University of Toronto, McGill, UBC and Waterloo, among others, as well as art and design schools such as RISD, Parsons and ArtCenter.
Is it only for art and architecture majors?
No. NPC students have been admitted to programs in architecture, business and commerce (for example UBC Sauder), science and engineering (for example computer science and biochemistry), the humanities and social sciences, and art and design.
When should a student start?
Ideally in Grade 9 or 10, so there is time to build foundations and then a sustained body of work. Students who start later can still prepare a focused portfolio — a free consultation will tell you what is realistic.
Is the consultation free?
Yes. Portfolio consultations are free, in person or online.
